Remembering Pearl Harbor, and Uncle Pat

MM Uncle Pat-2

On this day seventy-four years ago, a young bugler on the USS Raleigh tried to sound the warning and call to battle during the opening moments of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He soon discovered that his bugle was filled with water due to the bombing and explosions. This young sailor survived the battle, and went on to serve throughout the war.

That young sailor was Pat Perry Duncan, my uncle.  This soft spoken and gentle man was an inspiration to many. He passed away this past Summer.  It was fitting that members of the military and the Patriot Guard honored him at the funeral.

On this day, I remember my Uncle and all of those who have bravely served our country.

My cousin Jan has written a book about her father and his wartime experiences.  It is available on Amazon.
