The play of light and shadow is a subject that I often photograph. The many windows in our house create changing patterns throughout the day, causing me to pick up my camera and study the moment.
Recently, I was watching the light streaming through the blinds onto a painting by my mother. As I was about to press the shutter release, I noticed my shadow in the frame. Instinctively, I moved to eliminate it. Then it dawned on me, that my shadow added an important element to the scene.
Mom was a talented artist. Her most important role, however, was as a Mother. She would have appreciated this play of shadow and subject. Today would have been her birthday. I honor her memory and thank her for her love.
