Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Jim and Kay Richardson at their farm near Austin. This happy couple were gracious hosts, as they gave me a tour of the farm, and educated me about their agricultural practices. They sell eggs, pork, chicken, turkey and beef at area farmers markets, and to many Austin restaurants. Though their farm is not certified organic, Jim and Kay don’t use pesticides or chemicals, and follow sustainable practices. Jim, a veterinarian and Texas A&M graduate, doesn’t fit the mold of the usual advocate of organic farming. The Richardsons enjoy teaching others about sustainable agriculture and sharing their passion for small farming.
